• An Introduction to the Groundwater Management Plan

Previous operations at the Australian Vinyls Altona Plant (now owned by Altona Properties Pty Ltd) have contaminated soil and groundwater under the site with chlorinated hydrocarbons. Although the soil contamination is localised, the groundwater contamination extends beyond the boundaries of the site.

The operations which resulted in the contamination were stopped long ago. Current environmental legislation prevents these types of operations from happening again.

This Groundwater Management Plan describes what Altona Properties knows about the contamination and how we intend to deal with it. We believe the community has a right to know about this problem, and we welcome any inquiries you may have.

"We cannot turn back time such that the contamination never happened. We
can however, try to treat the contamination to a point at which natural
processes can cleanse the remainder. The treatment system we have installed
is showing positive results; but there is still more to do. Our plans and results
are detailed in this Groundwater Management Plan. Regular updates will
report our progress."
